Emotional Freedom Technique, or EFT as it is commonly known, is a new discovery with a very powerful but gentle way of releasing emotional, mental and physical pain.

It uses a process that works with the energy Meridians of the body, balancing the body’s energy system and removing any disturbance or emotional blocks to the energy flow around the body.

Meridians are used in acupuncture and very simply EFT is a form of acupuncture except you use your fingers instead of needles.

By simply tapping on some of these Meridian points on the face and hands, whilst at the same time using spoken affirmations, the client is able to reduce the stress, tension or pain they are experiencing at that time. It is, in effect, a way of tuning in to your own emotional and spiritual healing energies giving amazing results. Usually within a couple of sessions all negative and pent up emotions can be released.

The process is easy to memorise and within just one session you will have the skills to use it on yourself for any situation you may find yourself in, and, as it is portable, you can use it anywhere.

As mentioned above EFT is a relatively new therapy developed by Gary Craig in the 1980’s. However it is based on the ancient Chinese Meridian therapies such as acupuncture, acupressure and shiatsu, dating back to 1000 BC.

Meridian therapies have always been practised in the eastern continents and more recently in the west. It is through the fusion and understanding of both eastern and western idea’s that modern energy therapies, including Meridian therapies have sprung.

In the 1970’s a Dr Callahan was studying the psychological problems of a client who had a severe water phobia. He found that by tapping a Meridian point below her eye whilst she focused on her fear of water he completely and rapidly removed that fear and the phobia never returned.

Callahan spent the next ten years developing his theory which he called Thought Field Therapy. Gary Craig trained with Callahan and through his experiences developed EFT. For further information and reading visit Gary’s website at www.emofree.com

The benefits of EFT are varied and many. It is suitable for all ages (children are very perceptive to it) and it is effective in treating a wide range of conditions, including,

· Anxiety and panic attacks
· Addictions and cravings
· Anger
· Arthritis and back pain
· Headaches and migraine
· Phobias
· Post traumatic stress disorder
· Sports injuries and performance anxiety
· Self esteem and poor self image
· Stress and depression

It is not uncommon for longstanding chronic pain and phobia’s to be released in one session. Similarly, psychological pain such as anxiety, depression and addictions caused by traumatic incidents or childhood memories can often be relieved quickly and effectively.

Before the treatment you will have to complete a detailed questionnaire outlining the main area’s you wish to focus on. This is returned to the therapist before your appointment to enable them to plan the session accordingly.

Your session will begin with a brief chat in a relaxed atmosphere. You will then be taught the basic routine showing you points around your face and hands on which you will ‘tap’ whilst at the same time using spoken affirmations.

Very quickly you get to the route cause of the emotions which lead to unwanted behaviour and stress patterns in our lives, working jointly with the subconscious and conscious minds. It is the subconscious that holds onto all the things we don’t know how to deal with and this keeps suppressing our emotions. EFT shows you how to release the emotional issues that are causing you problems at that moment in time.

Some people feel a little silly the first time they use EFT but once you have used the routine a couple of times and see how powerful it is then it becomes second nature. As it is an emotional experience be prepared to release those emotions.

Your session will last an hour at the end of which you will be confident to use it at home yourself. You will be given a take home package for you to refer to and the therapist will usually always be available to speak and give advice over the telephone. A second or occasionally third treatment may be necessary for some deep routed issues.

Once mastered you can use EFT anywhere for almost any situation you may find yourself in.
